Featured Female in Business: Chelsea Flower
From her first entrepreneurial ventures as a child to leading a thriving boutique social media agency, Chelsea Flower’s journey is a testament to hard work, adaptability, and staying true to her values. Let’s dive into the story behind Scott Social, Chelsea’s approach to business, and her commitment to making a lasting impact.
A Smoothie Stand Start
Chelsea’s entrepreneurial spirit showed up early. “I was six years old, looked at the traditional lemonade stand model, and thought, ‘I can do better,’” she recalls. That idea led to a smoothie stand—and countless childhood ventures, including a library, a golf ball rehab center, and an art gallery.
“I didn’t call it entrepreneurship back then, but I’ve always loved creating something from nothing,” Chelsea says.
In her early twenties, Chelsea decided to turn her passion into a career and launched Scott Social, a boutique social media agency named after her middle name and her dad’s first name. “He’s a contractor who taught me that whether you’re building a house or building a brand, anything worth doing is worth doing right,” Chelsea shares.
This philosophy—quality over quantity—is at the heart of Scott Social. The agency offers services like content creation and community management, backed by a team of specialists in graphic design, video editing, paid ads, copywriting, and strategy. “Our clients don’t just get one person doing everything—they get experts focusing on what they do best,” Chelsea says.
Adapting to Change
In an industry that’s constantly evolving, Chelsea stresses the importance of staying nimble. “Social media changes weekly, if not daily. One day, Instagram loves Reels; the next, AI tools are reshaping how we work,” she explains. “It’s not about making huge shifts—it’s about those small pivots that keep you ahead.”
For Chelsea, quality over quantity isn’t just a motto; it’s a non-negotiable. “Every post, caption, and comment has to count,” she says. “If you’re a small business, you’re competing with the posts people see from their family and friends. To stand out, you have to create content that genuinely resonates.”
Learning to set boundaries was a challenge Chelsea had to face early on. “It’s tempting to say yes to everything, but that’s a fast track to burnout,” she admits. “Social media might not sleep, but social media managers have to. Now, boundaries are a must—for me and my team—and it’s made a huge difference in the way we work and the relationships we build with clients.”
Scott Social primarily works with women-owned businesses that care about the details, value timeless design, and prioritize community. Their ideal client as someone who:
♡ Sees social media as a long-term investment
♡ Values quality over quantity
♡ Communicates openly and constructively.
Chelsea’s top three pieces of advice for women building their businesses:
Not every piece of advice is for you: “Even well-meaning advice might not apply to your situation. Trust your gut and know what’s true for you.”
Set boundaries early: “Your business might be your baby, but you’re not doing anyone any favors if you’re running on empty.”
Find your people: “Having a network of fellow entrepreneurs has been a game changer for me. These are the people who get it and will push you to keep going.”
Chelsea’s ultimate goal is to create meaningful change. “At the end of the day, it’s about helping people—whether that’s small businesses finding their voice online, mentoring entrepreneurs, or building a team where work-life balance is a priority,” she says.
