Stop Awkward Networking Forever

Networking can sometimes feel a lot like dating — you’re putting yourself out there, hoping for a spark of connection, and wondering if you’ll click with the person across the table. And just like dating, the best connections happen when you show up as your authentic self. That’s exactly what our upcoming Entrepreneur Speed Dating event is all about: creating meaningful, genuine relationships — without the awkwardness.

Check out these five tips to help you make the most of your next Vested event and ensure your fellow female entrepreneurs are swiping right on you:

Come with Curiosity

Forget the elevator pitch — lead with curiosity instead. Ask thoughtful questions like, “What’s lighting you up in your business right now?” or “What’s a challenge you’re excited to tackle this year?” When you show genuine interest in someone’s journey, you’ll create a deeper, more memorable connection.

Be Yourself (No But Really!)

It’s tempting to put on a polished, professional front, but people are drawn to authenticity. Share your wins and your struggles. Talk about what you’re passionate about. When you show up as the real you, you’ll attract people who truly align with your vibe and values. You can even cry a little bit - we listen and we don’t judge!

Ditch the Hard Sell

The goal here isn’t to close a deal — it’s to build relationships. Instead of focusing on what you can get from the conversation, think about how you can support the person you’re talking to. Maybe you know someone they should meet, or you’ve read a book that aligns with their current challenge. Offering value without expecting anything in return sets the foundation for lasting connections.

Prepare Your One-Sentence Elevator Pitch

We’re keeping things moving at the Entrepreneur Speed Dating event, so you’ll want to introduce yourself succinctly and clearly. Think less “sales pitch” and more “business vibe.” Try something like, “I’m [Name], and I help [who you serve] by [what you do], so they can [the result they get].” This makes it easy for people to understand what you’re about without feeling like they’re being sold to.

Follow Up with Intent

The magic of networking happens after the event. Send a quick message within a day or two, referencing something you discussed and suggesting a next step — whether that’s grabbing coffee, collaborating, or just staying in touch. A simple “It was so great meeting you — I’d love to continue our conversation about [topic]” goes a long way. Our post-event follow-up email is a great way to connect with someone if you forget their name or contact info!
